Aaron Rai talks about how proud he is to become the first English winner of the PGA Championship for more than 100 years: “I wasn't actually aware of it until yesterday. I think in this room yesterday it was mentioned, which was the first of my knowledge. “But yeah, extremely, extremely proud. There's a lot of incredible and historic English players over those hundred years who have gone on to achieve incredible things and had phenomenal careers, but to win this event and then to be the person that's the first one to have won it in a long time from England is an amazing thing and something to be extremely proud of.” Aaron’s journey to the top of the sport began with humble beginnings. When he was a junior living in Wombourne near Wolverhampton, Aaron’s Dad actually quit his job to help Aaron practice and progress his golf career, so the family relied on household income from his Mum and sister. He credits them for the incredible work ethic and moral values he has: “I think a lot of that was from my upbringing. My dad was with me, as I said, every day practice-wise, and he really instilled the importance of work and dedication and trying to consistently build just good, strong habits around the game. “My mom worked extremely hard away from golf. Her jobs, she worked a couple of jobs at one time, at a point in time, and she did a lot of work around the house. My sister took a massive role as well at a young age. She had a job from the age of 14, 15. So there was a lot of consistent messaging of hard work, and that was generally the environment that was there at the house. And that was at the golf course as well. “So I think it's been something I've just grown up with, and I guess as I've got older, something that I've really valued and tried to continue to move forward with.” Aaron works as hard as anyone in the game, regularly practicing late into the evenings and has even been seen leaving the putting green at Wentworth at 11:30pm at night on some days during a tournament week. He’s worked his way up through every level of the sport. From playing on the Europro in 2012 when he turned pro, to earning a Challenge Tour card in 2016, to then winning 3 times in 2017 to earn a European Tour card, to winning his first European Tour event at the Hong Kong Open in 2018, to qualifying for the PGA Tour via the Korn Ferry Tour finals in 2021, to winning on the PGA Tour at the Wyndham Championship in 2024, to now winning his first major in 2026 and making history. His career has been a perfect progression based on hard work and dedication. And he said earning this first major title is re-affirming for the effort he’s putting in: “Extremely affirming, and that's very kind of Xander to say. There are a lot of guys who work extremely hard. The level on the PGA Tour is so strong, let alone in a major championship. So I think that's a prerequisite of what is just required to try and compete out here. “But yeah, it's very, very reaffirming to know the things that we're doing are working and leading to continued development within the game. So, yeah, hopefully I can just continue to move along a pretty similar path moving forward.” Aaron Rai is a fantastic role model and a great ambassador for the sport. He’s a fitting winner of the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink. PGA Championship

Scottie Scheffler is a member of the PGA Tour’s Player Advisory Council. He was asked today if there’s any issues he feels strongly about, and after originally saying he “doesn’t know”, he then spoke at depth about the importance of player pathways. Speaking ahead of his defence of the Memorial Tournament, Scottie said: “I don't know. Yeah, no, I don't know. Nothing too strong. “I think one thing that we talked about in terms of the new schedule was a healthy amount of turnover, and one thing that I'm actually pretty passionate about is avenues of getting onto the Tour. I felt like when I came out, that was something that wasn't an issue for me, but it was more difficult than I thought it would be. So when I turned pro -- when I was planning on turning pro after graduating college, PGA Tour U wasn't a thing. “I tried to sign up for PGA Tour Canada Q-School and there was only one qualifier that I could do due to my college schedule, finishing out the year, and that qualifier had already filled up because they give priority to the people that had already had status before, which I understand. But there wasn't an avenue for me to even qualify for PGA Tour Canada, so I spent the summer playing Monday qualifiers on the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour and playing mini Tour events so I could stay sharp and get ready for Q-School. “So when PGA Tour U started being discussed, that was something I was pretty passionate about, getting a new young group of guys out there and giving them avenues to get into our system and opportunities to get onto the PGA Tour. Because the guys coming out of college are getting better and better from a young age, and I think in a lot of other sports, it's very simple how you get into the professional ranks, is you get drafted, and in golf, there's not really that avenue, and I felt like that was something that we needed to have on the Tour is the right avenues for guys to be able to got out here. I feel like where we're at on PGA Tour U, giving those guys the opportunities is something that I think is important to me.” He went on to emphasise his feelings: “I think just giving guys opportunities is really what it is. Golf is a hard sport to predict, and I think that's why for a long time there wasn't that system, just because a guy could be a great college player, but it's really hard to figure out who is going to be the best player out here. “So I think giving guys a lot of opportunity across the board is important, and that's not giving out a ton of cards on the PGA Tour, but getting guys into our system where when you know if you play well at a PGA Tour sanctioned event, whether it's PGA Tour Canada or Latin America -- or I think it's called PGA Tour Americas now. But giving guys those starts and those opportunities to where they can prove themself and earn their spot on the Tour. “There was an avenue for me, which was Q-School and a year on the Korn Ferry Tour, but I think it's important to get guys immediately into the system when they get out of college, especially when they have had good college careers.” PGA TOUR the Memorial

Cameron Young is playing with a golf ball that would allegedly be compliant with the new roll back rules that will come into effect in a few years time. He was asked about it ahead of the PGA Championship and he says every player in the game is sacrificing distance for control, and he put it in play at the Wyndham last year which he won. “I think I put it in play the same reason that everybody else plays the ball that they play. I hit it during a ball test, one of the Titleist facilities probably close to two years ago and didn't know anything about it and just kind of say, hey, what's that one? Because I liked the flight. “Then as things progressed, I was able to test it last year at Wyndham, able to put that in play, and it's been there since. “Obviously there is no conforming list. I wasn't aware that it would have -- I suppose I read something that said it passed that test, but I wasn't aware of that until very recently. “So at no point was that a consideration. It was just really me trying to optimize my golf, and it's the ball that seems to work the best for me.” He then was asked whether he lost distance with it compared to other balls he’s tested: “Not particularly. I don't think any of us are out really here playing the ball that goes the farthest. I think you'd struggle to find a single person that's doing that. We're all sacrificing a certain amount of things that we feel are worth it, control with irons, control with wedges. For me, that's the biggest thing is being able to control spin, and this is the ball that does the best for me.” Finally he can as asked whether this ball goes further than the one he was using: “No, I hit very similar, yeah. It's much more -- the driver is kind of the easiest thing to deal with, I feel like. For me to get it where it needed to be, I had to just add a little bit of spin, and it kind of comes out at a perfectly playable range. “For me, the biggest thing, like I said, is the irons. This ball is easier to control with the irons. It doesn't spin as much, and it just allows me to be better with my distance control just because it's more consistent.” The golf ball rollback has been a hugely controversial subject but Cameron Young is currently using one that’s compliant and he is playing the best golf of his career. This gives the best idea yet on what impact, or lack of it, the new rules will actually have on the sport. PGA Championship

Congrats to Ryan Ward for having his contract selected and being placed on the Dodgers' 40 Man Roster. Wardo was awarded as the Most Valuable Player in the PCL this past season after hitting .290, with an OPS of .937. He posted a WRC+ of 132, and his 36 home runs led ALL of the Minor Leagues During this season he also became the ALL-TIME home runs leader (90) and RBIs (318) in the history of the Bricktown Ballpark Era for OKC baseball. On a personal note, I've been going to AAA OKC games since 1975. That dates back to All-Sports stadium, and 6 different affiliation changes, 5 of which have been in my lifetime, and that I remember VERY well. So, to see this with my own eyes was truly historical on a personal level for me as well. #89ERS And, to have it happen in the first year of the new branding was a real "page turner" of OKC baseball, so that's SUPER cool too. Ward also drove in 122 runs, which is the most of ANY player in the PCL since 2010, and racked up the most total bases (315) of any player in the PCL since 2001. Ward also set single-season records for the Bricktown era in hits (164), runs (113), and RBIs (122). As per his defense... His outfield play has gotten better and better as each year has passed, and, while his bat will likely always be the"show stealer", he is a good athlete and has become a very solid outfielder. He can also play 1st base, and dabbled in a touch of 2nd base while at Bryant Baseball Speaking of Bryant, he's the only Bulldog ever to hit over .400 for a single season, and he struck out just 1 time his senior Season at Millbury, so the "hit tool" is NOT a new thing for him. As an aside, he graduated with fewer than 100 kids in his High School, and he is not shy to show pride in his "small town" work ethic. With all the home runs over the fence, his highlight of last year was an at-bat where he kept the ball IN the park. Wardo knocked an INSIDE-the-park WALKOFF home run back at the beginning of May. Congrats, Wardo, I could type ALL DAY about this dude, but that will do it for NOW. #dodgers
