Huh, now I know why they're shaped like that.

...and they're made of glass or ceramic so they will shatter and short, rather than chip or degrade and spark

I started my insulator collection last year. Have a dozen or so. I can't help it. They are at every auction and yard sale headed to and fro from the beach. Sometimes real cheap. But I want them lining my two windows in the shack. Easily amused but find them quirky and fascinating

Electrons don't jump anywhere. They never leave the atom. They get excited. Electricity generation is electro-magnetic energy that operates like light in sine and cosine waves in perpendicular directions.

Huh* my Mom collects these, now I know about their funny design.

Hah! I've been wondering about this all my life, but I never bothered enough to look it up. Thanks, I learned something new today!

El vídeo tiene un error. La corriente es alterna y los electrones solo se desplazan una corta distancia y van y vienen. No se están desplazando a gran velocidad como aparenta el vídeo.

My grandfather has a joke: Everyone is drinking—except the telegraph pole, because its cups are screwed on upside down.

Trial and error makes for good design.

That strangely resembles the Egyptian's Djed ! But as for the description promoted by modern Egyptology, including the gigantic pyramids, we can all laugh out loud ! Modern Egyptology is like MSM : fake and g*y ! Luckily, I did found serious clues with the Step Pyramid...

Nah - they are shaped that way because they make great ashtrays when you flip them over.

Electrons jump? I thought that moving electron theory was abandoned.

Apparently mechanical strength is also a design factor.

When they get dusty and then wet (dew usually), the dust contributes to ions in the water and flashover can still happen.

low key electrifying how they went about figuring out that the wires leak power, thus they need better insulator design to prevent that power loss on transmission lines as much as possible.. shows the real weaknesses too of power transmission across long distances.
