If we don't need to break the mesh apart, if we've got references ready to generate it, and if the asset is complex enough to save an artist more than a few minutes of work. Plus it’s not 400k polys (or at least it decimates nicely)... Then yeah, I can see the value! Aside from that, I struggle to see where these assets would really be useful in that state...

That looks more like a scan than an AI model. I guess if you consider any geometry you didn't make by hand as AI, that makes sense. Photo scanning just isn't great at this.

Huh. I guess I've never tried AI model creation. It LOOKS like an un retouched Photoscan. It's impressive that this is possible, but it doesn't look very usable.

Hero cars are like the worst case scenario for AI today. Your comparison is just as disingeneous as his (which is fair, I guess). But most assets aren't that, and while I can't recommend any straight-to-3D generators now, the writing is on the wall, you should plan accordingly.

To be fair, I don't look at assets from 100m away. And we all know it'll get better with in a few years. It still doesn't mean it's looking good rn 🤔

Yes, that's the problem, artists see everything under a magnifying glass that nobody will ever have. It's an obsession and I understand it perfectly well, but the bean counters need to have an eye on that, or it's not sustainable. I'm not saying it "good" yet either.

nice showcase of current limitations of AI for 3D. Most such models use diffusion on a finite voxel grid, then it tries to convert volume to polygons, usually with algorithms such as surface net. It results in the geometry looking melted. Not suitable for hard surfaces.

That doesn't mean shit. If you are working on a project and just need a generic car to be in the background of your scene, you don't need to pay $5,000 for a "human hand modeled 3D".

Its weird that the same people who try to upscale AI model's defects by categorizing them as background assets are the same people who hire a modeller and nitpick on the very smallest detail and that too under the shortest budget and time constraints.

I agree completely, however, I'm fearful this will have the same path of genAI images, it starts off obviously flawed but now it's to a point you have to really study it to tell it's AI on a lot of images. Time will tell I suppose

well.. lets be honest. AI videos were also just as shit as that AI model you're showing. now.. most people can easily get fooled by them. its just a matter of time until AI manages to make it much better, but it's gonna take way longer because of how complicated 3d stuff is.
