I think it's from "Land of the Lechs" which is a further subdivision of the western Slavic peoples (Polish, Czech and Slovak) and most of the Lechites became what we now call "Poles" Kinda lime how Hungary calls itself "Magyaroszág" or "Land of the Magyars"

Das kommt wahrscheinlich vom südostpolnischen Volksstamm der Lendizen. So wie wir bei anderen Sprachen nach verschiedenen Germanischen Stämmen benannt wurden (z.B. Alemannen, etc.) gibt's das bei den Polen auch. Tschuldigung für diese sehr "deutsche" Antwort 😅
