When I was in the army they taught us to jam that thumb right into his eye and keep pushing till he stops squirming.

@Gruntpa Makes for a solid choke when you can get it.

I don't. It puts too much of your weight on one side, making it easier to get rolled. The best variation is Carlson Gracie's. You have the right hand in deep the collar, your left hand comes down and chops at the base of the neck/traps, grabs and complete choke.

Before people critique it, and I’m already too late for that, this is the exact variation Roger Gracie used to choke everyone out in adcc in his division. Not new at all but the most effective cross choke I’ve ever seen and I still use to this day.

I've been doing this as my go-to collar choke in Jiu Jitsu, works like a charm, and if their chin is in the way use your forehead against theirs and push their head back to clear the chin. Most people don't defend it until it's too late.

This is really useful for those branches of the military that aren't given guns, like the Salvation Army and the Health Service Corps.

But if he's wearing a ridiculous puffy winter coat and ski mask during a heat wave instead of a collard shirt?

Not gonna lie...knowing Marines, I legitimately thought he was gonna be serious, serious, serious....then do something silly/gay, like planting a big kiss on his forehead, or maybe moaning in his ear

It’s a loop choke instead of cross collar. For gi BJJ, absolutely. The risk you run is that both hands are committed, and they bridge you. You finish the choke from guard. For combat, a guy in the comments already recommended inserting your thumb into their eyes. Do that.

It’s the same one folks do from closed guard. If you’re on the bottom you better bridge to upa or elbow escape before that choke gets sunk! The last ditch effort to defend is upa>opponent maintains choke>defend with ‘answer the phone’ from closed guard. Jits works! Good shit!

Actually bad, literally just put your hand above his head in a post so bridging his hips doesn't matter, collapse to an elbow, opposite grip where you don't have to flick and he can't see it anyway and then secure choke. Strangle hand facing toward, supporting hand facing away

I don't really do any cross collar chokes, especially from mount

That's just how its done. There's no other variation lol. I don't care what your blue belt instructor says. There's the right way and your coach's way. @RenerGracie

I prefer second hand going to third collar. It's quicker and pretty hard to defend once you have a deep first grip.

Yep, this is how I was taught from day one. And it also posts them to the ground pretty good (fist -> ground) through the transition.

FYI: If you attempt this on someone wearing a regular T-shirt, the shirt just rips and you lose your leverage for the choke.
