I added a node to my custom node that converts the depth image to a normal map! This is useful for 2D-style images where Normals Estimation doesn't work well.

Tension Map / Dynamic Squish 1. Geo Node to capture the distance between "Edge Vertices" node Position 1 & 2 as `before_edge_dist` 2. Curve modifier 3. Geo Node same again as `after_edge_dist`. `after_edge_dist / before_edge_dist = diff`. 4. Use the diff to mix normal maps

Create a 3D model from a single image, set of images or a text prompt in < 1 minute 😮‍💨 This new AI paper called CAT3D shows us that it’ll keep getting easier to produce 3D models from 2D images — whether it’s a sparser real world 3D scan (a few photos instead of hundreds) or your favorite 2D image generator like Midjourney (just an image). How does this magic work? “This architecture is similar to video diffusion models, but with camera pose embeddings for each image instead of time embeddings. The generated views are passed into a robust 3D reconstruction pipeline to create the 3D representation (Zip-NeRF or 3DGS)”

Some updates on the multiview vistadream pipeline with Rerun! Rerun came in extremely useful here, as being able to visualize depths at each stage of the pipeline allowed me to debug some nasty bugs. Since the last time, I was only working with a single image input. I've added in VGGT as my multiview pose + depth estimator. It works REALLY well for getting camera poses, but the depths are not that great. To try and fix that, I estimated depth maps from MoGeV2 for each of the views, and scale+shift aligned them so that they would match up to the confident sections of VGGT's depth predictions. You can see in the video just how much sharper the visualized 2d depth maps are! The biggest issue continues to be the multiview consistency 🫠 That's up next, along with actually training the Gaussian splat. Lots of work went into actually understanding inputs+outputs for VGGT. I had some funky bugs where the confidence values would all collapse to true I'm also really excited for this pipeline to use Difix3D+ Nvidia instead of Flux Inpainting, it seems like a better suited for a multiview pipeline.

Yesterday someone suggested I create a fight between Alucard and Drolta Tzuentes using Kling AI 2.6. I usually work with Text to Video, but in this case I had to use Image to Video. The base image is a fusion of two images created in Niji and combined with GPT Image 1.5. Then I added the right prompt to give the fight speed and dynamism. The result isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty cool.
