Today I went to the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center specifically to meet Sweet Pea. She was rescued after being found in a net that cut off one of her flippers and after her outer shell was broken by a passing boat. She is a special girl.

In a hospital room today visiting a friend… I was unsurprised to find the drawer full of syringes and other medical supplies was set to the factory default (2+4, 3). It’s not a terrible lock… the end user was the weak link.

Goose bumps to see these tiny baby turtles making their first voyage into the sea from our Forest Department Olive ridley turtle hatchery at the Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai. To realise that these turtle species date back to the time of the dinosaurs,over 200 million years ago is startling. So many incredible facts about these brave babies that will leave you speecless.Hatchlings use a temporary "egg tooth" or carbuncle to break open the shell. Eggs usually hatch in 45-60 days and babies emerge digging through the sand when their head comes out first.They also have a yolk sac on their belly to provide nutrients for them to swim and travel when released back into the sea. In November 2017, an ecologist was in the middle of a research expedition in central Amazonia when he spotted something strange: a black-chinned antbird resting on a branch with an erebid moth on the back of its neck. The moth was probing one of the bird's eyes with its proboscis and appeared to be drinking from it. About 45 minutes later, they came across a different moth drinking from the eye of another resting antbird. Butterflies and bees also drink the eye secretions of other animals—butterflies are partial to basking crocodiles, whereas bees like turtle tears. On April 23 a woman named Gina Lorusso was killed in a car accident, and her dog escaped from the vehicle and was missing. Miraculously he was found in a pond yesterday. Gina was a turtle rider and a huge supporter from day 1. No one knows this until now, but in 2015 she worked for a Worcester restaurant called Bennie's Cafe, and she advertised on my website. The business was getting harassed by people who didn't like the things I was saying, and she wrote this epic response back to them that I published 11 years ago. I didn't know her that well, but she seemed like a great person, and will be missed by many:

From despair to hope and from struggle to triumph, this is the incredible story of a wild elephant mother's fight for survival backed by a dedicated and professional team of foresters and vets from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu Forest Department .The mother elephant was found sick and lying on ground with her 3 months old baby roaming around her in confusion and distress.The team consulted experts and vets and successfully lifted her with the help of a crane. She was kept supported by the crane for three days while being treated by Vets. Her baby joined the herd and other siblings roaming in the nearby forests visiting the mother in the night. Thanks to the treatment,she gained enough strength and was released to freedom in the wild today. We are monitoring her to keep an eye on her well being. JUST IN: 29-year-old Dutch woman who is perfectly healthy has been granted to k*ll herself by assisted su*cide. Insane. Zoraya ter Beek will soon be dead after officials in the Netherlands granted her request to take her own life. Ter Beek has been wanting to take her own life since 2020. She says she has been suffering from chronic depression, anxiety, and trauma. "In the three and a half years this has taken, I’ve never hesitated about my decision. I have felt guilt. I have a partner, family, friends and I’m not blind to their pain. I’m absolutely determined to go through with it." Ter Beek's says she is relieved to know that she will not exist in a few weeks. A medical team will come to her house on the day of her death, give her a sedative to put her in a coma, and then give her drugs to stop her heart. "For me, it will be like falling asleep. My partner will be there, but I’ve told him it’s OK if he needs to leave the room before the moment of death."
