I agree with Nigel: sending British troops to Ukraine would be a serious mistake. It risks dragging us into a wider war, with real consequences for our soldiers, for unclear objectives.

GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS: Ukraine is attempting to merge its war with the conflict in the Persian Gulf and drag NATO and the United States in. The United States does NOT have a mutual defense treaty with Ukraine, and it would be a SERIOUS blunder to let Kyiv drag America into a wider war. George Papadopoulos

I worry that if Putin prevails in Ukraine, our NATO allies could be tested next. That risks dragging us into a far bigger conflict. From my recent conversation on Firing Line with Margaret Hoover.

Russian Defense Minister: NATO assembled 360,000 troops in Eastern Europe. Poland is preparing to occupy Western Ukraine. Important: If NATO moves from a proxy war setting into a direct war with Russia it will be WW3 with all the devastating consequences.

Russian President Putin says that the deployment of European troops to Ukraine would mean war with Russia. "Towards what they are pushing the peoples of their countries now? Towards a war with the Russian Federation? Now they are saying that they are thinking about sending troops to Ukraine. That would mean war with Russia."

I was asked by @JakeTapper if my push to deny Trump funding for his illegal war with Iran was a failure to "support our troops". My answer: refusing to repeat the mistakes of the past - sending soldiers to die in pointless Middle East wars - is how we support our troops.
