I always do this… Is this just a British thing? ✊🏻🇬🇧
52 Yorum

The most British thing is waiting for that one person that doesn't say thank you, then ranting to yourself calling them an ignorant c**t 😂

That’d be me aha

I remember when I came to England two decades ago and was driving in a car with my housemate. I saw people raising a hand to him, especially in cars, and I asked him how he knew so many people. 😅🤣 we still laugh about it 🤣

Ahaha. 🤣 that’s why it must look like to outsiders 🤣

@Marta29111986 Outsiders.

@TheNorfolkLion It was 2 decades ago 🤦♀️

Nope… Southerners in the U.S. do this as well. 👋

Well you’re all pretty much British anyway 😜

Are you saying I get to claim one of those British vouchers…?

Of course. Or we can do a swap 😂

🙅🏼♂️

Aussie do it as well, guess we got it from the Brits ahaa

Must do 😂

Sadly it's being lost as manners isn't being taught and the quote unquote new Britains have little to no manner at all. Rude people send my blood boiling.

I tell my kids to do it. Pass it on.

When I was 9, my sister & I was crossing the road with my step-grandad. We had ALWAYS thanked a driver if they give way to us, this one occasion, I forgot & he slapped me round the back of the head that I almost fell over... I'm almost 40 & never EVER forget to thank a driver 😂

Always say thank you 😂

If driving I try make eye contact do they know I’ve seen them and acknowledge it’s safe to cross

Always eye contact 😂

This IS a British thing. This, queuing, flashing to let drivers through, holding the door open. WE are the polite, civilised nation. THIS is British culture.

We do it in Australia

It's done in Germany too 😃

Someone else earlier said it wasn’t done in Germany 😂

Also tapping into a bus. I’m astounded how many people just tap and go without thanking the driver.

I always thank the driver!

My middle school were known for encouraging us kids to do this. We used to get letters read out in assembly praising our good manners on the crossing outside of the school. You can still tell Bishop Lovett school kids today, as they will always put their hand up to say thank you!

It’s the British way 🇬🇧

No. It’s a civilized people thing. A do it all the time as well.

Surely it’s the same throughout the whole world😂

WE do this.. I instilled this into my children. They do the same thing. Maybe it is a English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish thing.. We also rush across the road.. We don't dawdle like we are owed something neither.. Politeness costs nothing. Kindness kills.

It's not. It's a common thing everywhere, but the UK is one of the few places where people actually give a way to others. 😅

I was brought up to be polite and always say please and thank you, I always say thank you if someone is polite to me, just the other day I lost my purse, and some kind person found it, everything was still in there, I dont have much but now she gets nice fresh eggs from me when ever she wants them...

I do - and nearly everyone in my part of the Cotswolds does. in Yorkshire when staying with a friend, he said that, on rural back roads they just do the very subtle lifting one finger from the steering wheel. ☝️ anyone confirm that?

No not just British. I go a step further wave and smile then I mouth Thank You as I'm crossing.

YES. It is a NATIVE British thing. That very civilised gesture is either lost on foreigners or brazenly ignored by them.

No, southern Americans do this.

This is a civilized person ‘thing’

In Australia too.

Isn’t it just normal behaviour for anyone (minus the 3rd world) even my lil kids do it.

Even if i`ve got shopping in both hands the bag gets lifted to say thanks.

Its a White thing

In the USA you have to slap the bonnet of the car as you walk past, shouting "I'm walking here..!"

This is a thing in the midwest of USA too. They call it the 2 finger wave.

Americans do the same thing.

I thank everyone. I thank cashiers. People who serve food. Everyone. It’s only good manners.

Me too it’s a Norfolk thing Nat lol x

Also a Norfolk thing to call someone a wanker who don’t say thank you 😂

🤣🤣🤣 very true x

In the countryside in New Zealand you also just do it to anyone you drive past as the assumption is that you all know each other.

@darknessofmice Raise hand or nod making sure to try make eye contact ensuring they have seen you and to thank them for giving way

Ummm no. Americans and people around the world do it. Why do Brits think they’re so unique.. I’ve been seeing posts about how you all think you have more snow and colder winters, better food, etc. None of which is correct

Same. I always do it
