I am appalled by escalating violence in #Nepal, which has left many young protesters dead or injured. Reports of the disproportionate use of force by the authorities need to be urgently investigated. Dialogue – not violence – is the way forward.

#Nepal: We are shocked by the killings and injury of protesters today and urge a prompt and transparent investigation. We have received several deeply worrying allegations of unnecessary or disproportionate use of force by security forces during protests organized by youth groups demonstrating against corruption and the recent Government ban on social media platforms. We call on the authorities to respect and ensure the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. All security forces must comply with the basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials. Nepal enjoys a lively democracy and active civic space, and dialogue is the best means to address young people’s concerns. We urge reconsideration of measures to regulate social media to ensure they comply with Nepal’s human rights obligations. ➡️

I reiterate my concerns about new waves of acute violence & fear in #Myanmar ahead of military-imposed ‘election’ – Volker Türk Such attacks may amount to a war crime. My office has received an extraordinary number of violent and graphic threats yesterday and today from right-wing individuals online and over the phone—directed toward me, my family, and my staff—after I pointed out the simple fact that President Trump should join Speaker Johnson and other level-headed Republicans in condemning political violence, not inciting it further. The solution to political disagreement in America is never violence. It should be easy for everybody to say that. Republicans need to condemn violence committed by the right, just as I and many other Democrats condemn violence by the left.

Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation marks a victory for the youth of the country. Accountability has finally been fixed for the repeated paper leaks. However, violence must be nipped in the bud. India will not allow itself to descend into situations like those witnessed in Nepal or Sri Lanka, whether orchestrated by the deep state or by foreign actors.
