Non-drinkers have to do this unless they want to spend their ENTIRE night explaining to everyone why they aren't drinking and being bombarded with nearly constant pleas/demands to 'relax' and consume alcohol.

Everybody has the right to choose not to drink and not be judged by it. I don’t think it’s a betrayal to pretend you are drinking, sometimes you just don’t want to have to explain yourself to people and that’s fine.

Theory: in the past, non drinkers were limited to southern Baptists and others on the bottom of the social, intellectual, and professional hierarchy. Muslim immigration has created a class of well educated literate non-drinkers who have more clout and have a stronger voice
