I am interested in understanding why a normal highway engineer would design such a steep slope road in this century. This is why the Iten kabarnet road is twisted countless times if it must pass on a hilly surface . It's a very dangerous section buana. Approach with caution

Yeah quite a poor design. Max vertical alignment should be at 7% and that is when no options exist. He could literally follow the contour if he did not want to backfill the entire valley or check for feasibility for a bridge.
