Listening to Alistair Begg saved my life in 1989 driving along a Houston freeway. I had no hope, I had no one I trusted. His preaching of the Gospel, as I contemplated running my car into a concrete pylon with tears streaming down my face, broke through to me and taught me the God the Father is the only Father one needs. God bless that man.

I am too. Odd thing? I’d recently gone through some trauma and started seeing a secular “counselor” who was trying to tell me that “faith had no meaning” in the “real world”, hence the despair I felt. He was tearing at the tiny bit of hope I’d held onto in my life. Praise Jesus I got His message through Pastor Begg!

In keeping with typical Scottish Calvinistic theology, he makes it sound like God arbitrarily picks winners and losers, as if Jesus arbitrarily decided one thief could go to heaven and the other must go to hell. That’s not at all what happened. Paul clearly tells us in Romans chapter 10 that we are saved when we come into agreement with what Jesus accomplished at the cross, specifically, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9 (NKJV) There we see two things required for salvation: 1. Say, "Jesus is Lord." 2. Believe in your heart that Jesus was raised from the dead. If we read the gospel accounts with an eye to see, we notice that the one thief on the cross next to Jesus did exactly this: Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” — Luke 23:42 (NKJV) We see in this sentence that the thief recognized Jesus as Lord. At the same time the thief expressed belief that Jesus would indeed be resurrected. He did exactly what Paul told us is required for salvation. So this pastor claiming that there is no way to know “how” the thief made it to heaven is flat out wrong. The Bible clearly tells us how. The Bible explicitly tells us Jesus paid the price for the sins of everyone in the world, not just believers (1 John 2:2). Yet only those who come into agreement with what Jesus did by confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead like the thief did get to experience the benefit of that payment by experiencing eternal life. Everyone else must attempt to enter heaven on their own merit. And all who try apart from Christ will fail. To make a crude analogy, Jesus cut every single person a check to pay their way into heaven. But only those who endorse the check and deposit it in their own accounts will enjoy the benefits of that payment. Even though everyone else also gets the same check, because they don't take it to the bank, it's as if their sins were never paid for.

Whenever I get those doubt whispers that Satan devises, I immediately think about that thief on the cross. And I immediately understand it’s not me. It’s not what I have achieved or how much I’ve done for Jesus, because it can never be enough. But…. Jesus is enough. And ONLY Jesus. 💕✝️

Praying 🙏 the Lord of Heaven directs this message to those who need to hear it and opens their ears. Praying 🙏 that He regenerates hearts by the hearing of the Word. Praying 🙏 His Kingdom is extended by His Mighty Hand. Lord use us as You Will.

Love it, however I never understand the push back on good works? In my experience few, if any, ever claim good works saves. We are made for "good works" & "good works" are the fruits of saving faith. Christ said, "follow me", "go & make disciples", a life of action is essential.

Why did the man on the middle cross say that he could come? Didn’t this thief ask Jesus to remember him when he enters His kingdom? This thief believed in Jesus!

This has been out for years and has been incredibly popular- It's commonly referred to as The Man On The Middle Cross, and the point missed by many is this - You can't make yourself a Christian. Salvation is completely of the Lord. ( As we Calvinist proclaim )
