“I’m just picking spots and reading the defense. If they back up too much I have that shot. If they’re up, I can drive. So just mixing it up and trying to play all three levels. I don’t think analytics is great on guys like Steph Curry shooting 40-footers and he’s making all of them. So people work on their games, and if you trust it and believe in it, why not shoot it?”

Great approach. If the mid range is perfected and defense gives it then it should be as easy or high percentage as a layup.

@ChampIAN_33 maybe learn how analytics work before asking questions in the future Erik. Analytics have never said the mid-range is a bad shot, they say its a bad shot for guys who don't convert them at a high clip. All the leagues best non-Center scorers have a mid-range game.

the man’s favorite player is KD & he’s spent his whole career until now playing with devin booker & later chris paul. the analytics are great but being a true 3-level scorer is better & he’s seen it first hand as much as anybody.

The absolute worst thing about analytics is people mistakenly boiling it down to 'no midrange'. Analytics never had any problem with Kawhi, KD, CP3 etc taking midrange shots cause they're good at it.

Steve was asked about this at the post-game presser: “I think where we are as a franchise is we’re still a good team, still competitive. We’re trying to give ourselves a swing at the plate every year. We did that last year. The point of where we are with the age of our best players is we can still be good but we’re obviously not in the same class as we were 5-6 years ago. We’re not in the same class as the team we played tonight and several other teams in the league. There’s no point in denying that. We have to embrace it, be realistic, and give ourselves a shot. We can give ourselves a shot like we did a year ago by connecting and staying healthy and getting on a run. We’re still good enough to do that. If you do that and you have a shot, you get to the playoffs, you never know what’s going to happen. I think that’s where we are right now so we’ve got to keep fighting.”

Adam Silver on tanking in the NBA: “In terms of the tanking, there’s no question that what we saw this season was unprecedented. You talked a lot about it. Your colleagues have talked a lot about it. Again, I think a bit of a group think there obviously by definition it can’t be successful for all the teams that were engaging in that strategy. But on the other hand the analytics which all the sports are using today suggest that it’s a potentially a winning strategy and that is to race to the bottom in order to get higher draft picks. I think it was a bit of perfect storm this year. You have a perception of a very deep draft class, which it appears to be some great players coming into the league. And then even fans in particular cities and even media in those cities to a certain degree were rooting for their teams to tank and saying, you know, how well can your team be managed if you’re sort of just in the middle? You either got to be great or you got to let yourself get bad.
