I asked Sam Altman: “Will AI kill writing?” He said: “I don’t see any evidence whatsoever that AI seems to be killing writing. Let’s say we have a system that can write better than a human. Do you think the most popular novel of 2027 has a human name... show more

In response to this - I'm an editor for a publication. And one of the red flags lately has been the large amount of AI-generated writing that has been flooding the submissions. We do not accept AI-Generated writing. I also caution against the overuse of Grammarly because it strips the personality out of the writing. What you are left with is shallow, uninteresting, bland, muck.

Chess engines have outperformed humans for years. Result? Chess is now more popular than ever. Regardless of how good AI gets, humans will always be interested in other humans. One day, there will be a Football World Cup for robots organized by a new FIFA (Fédération Intelligente de Football Artificiel) but no one will give a shit.

Sam is all over the place with his prognostications. It will have god level ability to manipulate, per his prior conversations, but no ability to write a better novel? Wouldn’t written manipulation be the same skill set as evoking emotion through writing? If you need a “character to follow”, why wont it just generate a fake character with a fully flushed background on social media? I’ve never met an author yet I still read their books. We like their style of writing. Not one person would like Stephen King in person.

It will kill almost all aspects of writing. IMO. And I say this as an author. It writes better than I do. I have the ideas, but only a matter of time. •

If you told us that Sam is actually AGI, I think most would believe.

this is so true, reading a book is much more than just its content, it’s also about knowing the experience/background of the person who wrote it

What we will see is people putting their name in AI-generated texts. I expect most of the future writing will be supported by AI. It's going to be like the transition we made from writing on paper to doing it directly into the computer.

I don't really mind using AI to write documentation and other bullshit so I can write poems by myself

I think AI will allow writers to be more prolific rather than replacing them

To me books are about content. Author doesn't exist to me. If AI can match the quality i wouldn't even bet an eye. And it's coming around.
