Such an individual is said to forfeit their portion in the afterlife. "No Cure for Their Illness": The Talmud (Shabbat 119b) notes that "Anyone who mockingly disparages Torah scholars has no remedy for his wounds." This implies that spiritual or physical ailments resulting from the sin are exceptionally difficult to heal because the root cause is a severing of one's connection to Torah guidance. Destruction of Communities: The Sages explicitly attribute major historical tragedies to this behavior. Rabbi Yehudah taught that the ancient city of Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians precisely because the inhabitants ridiculed and mocked the Torah scholars and prophets sent to guide them (Shabbat 119b).
