Ran out of butter and tried this yeah it’s missing 20% of its flavor and texture profile. I do like using mayo to toast hamburger or sausage buns on a charcoal grill tho. It almost comes out deep fried.

I always got butter on the counter, and I never have used mayo for a grilled cheese, always and I mean always butter. It's the proper way.

You don’t even need soft butter, just throw it in a knob in a pan and soak it up with the bread. The only difference is upon flipping you’ll put the sandwich on a plate and throw another knob in first- nbd!

I heat up the pan and throw a chunk of butter in and let it melt and swirl the bread around in the melted butter. Coats evenly and taste better.

I prefer butter …. I was raised to pop that grilled cheese open as you were pulling it out of the pan (other wise it won’t open) and add mayo to it (inside) and pickle on the side. Yum!!! As an adult I love to add bacon and fresh sliced tomato too!

Why not just use soybean oil? Because nobody buys soybean oil because it’s garbage. That’s why butter wins.
