I calculated Tesla FSD's reaction time

I was worried you were going to only start counting the time from when the dummy was thrown. Instead you did a frame by frame from when David’s little pinky toe is just visible 😅

That's an old model, too. Current hardware and cameras are even faster.

this is AI4/HW4

Ah, good, then. Carry on.

The GOAT is back

At 36 inference cycles a second it vastly... VASTLY... out performs any human.

Dude edging us with clips from his upcoming videos again. Please just release it hahaha

I have to remake it 5 times or so or else it's not good

@NTGamingg It would be hell to be your editor... I feel sorry for that person!

@NTGamingg it’s me

Reaction time is absolutely ridiculous in the best way. I can believe it saw a pants leg and started to move, that’s just nuts. Great video breakdown! Shout out to David’s moss for being the ultimate dummy thrower.

I heard of a guy being faster than that. She could of been lying.

0.13 milliseconds... Absolutely nuts

Awesome work by you and @DavidMoss

@DavidMoss Dan O’Dowd: With Green Hills Software, we’d expect a reaction time of one frame!

FSD cameras ingest ~36 fps (≈28 ms per frame). Even with excellent prediction, it can only react as fast as new pixels arrive. The neural net updates at 36 Hz with fast inference, but real limits are still physics (eg brakes, etc) after detection.

Reaction time is brilliant! This happened 2 days ago. Second time it has avoided a serious highway collision in just a couple months. Grateful!!!!

@elonmusk SpuceX 🚀 Testing FSD in full effect

Will save lives! My car saved a cat today. I had not seen it (was looking at pedestrians on the left), but he car did and slowed just enough so the car was not hit

Please do one of these videos with a car behind you and say a squirrel or a cat I've often wondered what the reaction would be if you were being tailgated. Whether it would make the differentiation between hitting a squirrel cat or even a dog and getting rear-ended

@mton1109 That’s so fast. Wow!!

This guy isn’t what he used to be.

what did I used to be?

It was QUICK because it sensed @DavidMoss in the area. 🤣

I'm sure you covered it somewhere, but how complicated is the video capture from the infotainment screen? Really elevates the quality of your videos!

Amazing work. I hope when they go for full regulatory approval they will start publishing these kind of stats just like other metrics on a car (0-60 etc)

@OGMarsLife Actually insane

That reaction time! 😳 4 frames?????

Great reaction time. If you can do the same exact test at the same location during dusk and different weather conditions, that would make for great content.

@elonmusk Once you go full FSD You don’t feel like going back

The robots will be faster than us.

You should try this test with a HW3 to see what are they missing here

@elonmusk FSD’s 130ms reaction is pure superhuman magic. Humans can’t compete - autonomy wins! 🚀 Tesla rewriting safety forever.

@elonmusk Really awesome! 👍😎👏🏻👏🏻

super cool vid :) it’s hard to fathom that this tech is still stuck in bureaucracy in most European countries

Just watched the video. Great as usual and quite informative! Love your stuff. Wonder how good HW3 will be with v14 lite 🤔

I love my fsd but twice in the last week it slammed on the brakes for no reason. The first was on a rural highway. Skid marks. Second, busy city road. I think it saw a bus pulling out of a parking lot but it wasn't going fast enough to be a problem. Nothing behind me both times.

This got to be the same reason why we get brake stabs from birds and such. It reacted as if it would hit it within the same frames, but additional frames would have mapped a trajectory that wouldn't need a reaction. So they just need to tune maybe 2 or 3 more frames before reaction they would get the sweet spot of safety and comfort.

your videos are crack for fsd fans

Great analysis! beyond crazy impressive. If you think any driver could react better - maybe you should be in F1

I had a real life situation like this with a woman on the sidewalk talking on her phone - she tripped over her own feet and stumbled out into the road in front of me. I had enough time to grab the wheel but I didn't have to; FSD immediately slowed and turned to gain space just in case.
