'I cannot understand...how after having had a 28.9% pay increase from this government, resident doctors are now saying: "we're going on strike".' Health Secretary Wes Streeting says there is 'no precedent for this in the history of British trade unions'.

Let’s break that down into reality, shall we @wesstreeting? The majority of the uplift pay came from the Conservatives, and only after multiple rounds of industrial action. It took a fully qualified resident doctor from around £14/hr to £18.62/hr. We are asking for £22.67/hr. That’s the inflation adjusted rate we would have been on in 2008 had pay not been eroded by 21%. A fair wage for a highly skilled professional responsible for hundreds of patients, often working nights, weekends, and holidays. Are you seriously saying a doctor isn’t worth £22.67 an hour?

@wesstreeting Because they see you as a soft touch. Running on a manifesto of giving the unions whatever they want was not the smartest idea.

@wesstreeting Wes can’t fathom docs striking after 28.9%? Maybe they saw Keir’s £283m Ukraine cheque and want their slice before it’s all missiles!

@wesstreeting Because maybe they see how weak Wet Wipe Wes is and how they can get whatever they want out of him. Wasn't he chirping on about doing what the Tories couldn't do and end the strikes? The unions see Wes and Liebour as easy targets now. Watch the train drivers go next.

Wes says 28.9% is unprecedented. What’s also unprecedented? Doctors earning just £17.56/hour after 15 years of erosion. That’s the rate for saving lives, running wards, and covering rota gaps. Striking isn’t reckless. It’s the result of being undervalued for far too long.

@wesstreeting You can’t understand??? Quite simple… when they know they are dealing with a weak government that folded without any conditions last year, it was obvious to the rest of us that they’d come knocking again! Remember when you scoffed at the Tories having doctors going on strike!

@wesstreeting Let's talk about progress: Failed on workforce planning, 20,000 doctors locked out of training this year. Failed on pay, only 0.9% towards a 23% pay erosion. Failed on delivering overtime reforms agreed last summer.

@wesstreeting It’s called greed. Labour caved in to the union demands last time, so they’re back for more. It’s not hard to understand @wesstreeting

@wesstreeting You gave them a no strings attached 29% pay increase, you thick wanker, maybe you should have tied it to a no strike deal? Or, just unretire the baseball bat?

@wesstreeting Just get round a table and sort it out. It is that easy, that's what you said right?
