I think the longer he was Prince of Wales and the older he got, played on his head in ways that made him seem formal and stiff. Between becoming King, turning 75 and getting diagnosed with cancer, you get the sense that Charles is free in a way he hasn't been. He's lighter despite the massive job and worrying health battle. We see more of an informal man who likes people and isn't as fussy as his detractors claimed for decades. And I think that a big part of his happiness is also seeing the love of his life get the affection and respect he wanted for her all these years. He really seems to be a man in full.
