I carry appendix almost every day. But let’s be honest: Appendix carry is tolerable. Not safe. You’re carrying a loaded gun pointed at your femoral artery and everything else you really don’t want to lose. A man with 15 years of firearms experience had an accidental discharge while drawing... show more

Strong side, outside the waistband, and everytime I have had to present a weapon I had my gun in my hand long before it would have been time to use it. If I ever have to "fast draw" to actually use my sidearm it will be because I had my head up my a$$ and was not paying attention. Depending on the scenario you could be reholstering your gun, for sure, after a gunfight. Most of the time you will be clearing it and dropping on the ground with your hands raised waiting on police.

Tex Grebner shot himself in the butt. He was carrying OWB strong side. His mistake was using a poorly designed holster and going faster than he was safely able too. A shot anywhere in the body is potentially fatal. I’ll stick with DA/SA and appendix carry.

I have a micro so I don’t worry about hitting anything.

3-4 o'clock. IWB summer/church pistol and OWB winter pistol. It's how I've always carried... it's how I practice. Pointing a loaded gun at my man bits and my femoral artery all day doesn't make sense to me. Obviously everyone makes their own decisions for whats right for them...no judgement.

I carry appendix but im a bitch and dont keep one chambered. I know that 1 second it takes to rack a round can mean life or death. I just really really really don't wanna shoot my dick off or a hollow point into my thigh.

3 o’clock, OWB, dress loose. No printing but even if I did, I don’t sweat it because 98 percent of the population is on their phones and wouldn’t notice even I openly carried a rifle. I actually have seen this experiment in action. Back in the day when open carry was mostly illegal in Florida, the gun rights groups would gather for open carry fishing (open carry at the time was only legal if you were hunting or fishing) - I went to one on South Beach (a blue hive) just to check it out and I helped a friend find his car parking spot after the rally concluded. He was openly carrying a pretty slick AK. I was astounded how no one noticed. Too busy on social media…

Maybe I am wrong here, but I appendix carry because I don't want people getting their hands-on the gun. If it's holstered on your side or on your back, you can't see if somebody's eyeballing it. It seems to be easily exposed. It seems that with appendix carry, it requires an attempt to take it to be much more invasive.

Time for someone too start producing level 3 boxers

bro's kids gonna come out like this:

Great advice, once again. 👏🏽

Your argument that appendix carry is not safe as followed by a list of human factors. It is perfectly safe in the sense that a modern firearm in a proper holster is never going to discharge by itself, no matter where it's pointed. What makes any scenario safe or unsafe is the degree to which we train.

I appendix carry a Glock daily, and you’re a retard for posting this. Someone shooting themselves drawing or holstering is 110% negligence on their end plain and simple.

Carry at 4 o'clock and life becomes simpler and less dangerous. Just practice.

"Appendix carry is tolerable. Not safe." You can just say you're retarded.

I have never and would never carry appendix. Rules 1 and 2 exist for very good reason. Always 3:00 whether its IWB micro 9mm or OWB 1911/2011. You're going to shoot your dick off.

3:00, IWB, aggressive forward cant (Kramer Leather, Thomas Perfectionist); full size steel frame double stack 1911 (the same ParaOrdnance P14 I've carried for about 30 years). I can draw and reholster just as quickly and safely from behind the wheel of a vehicle, my desk, or crouched behind cover, as I can while standing straight up in front of a threat. Pretty sure I don't want to try any of those from appendix.

Another reason why a thumb safety / manual safety is good to consider.

Nope. 3-4 o'clock and I have zero discomfort or problems.

I made the decision years ago, if I’m going to IWB / Appendix carry it’s a must to have a manual safety. @Smith_WessonInc Shield+ is my EDC choice. I decided a .05 sec sweep of the thumb was acceptable vs shooting my manhood off. Just train with it & its 2nd nature. Kinda like driving a stick shift / manual sports car. You don’t have to think about it. Your nuts will thank you.

Appendix carry, hammer fired DA/SA. Mitigates some of the risk. Can thumb the hammer on holster to detect trigger movement. Hammer down in draw is a long heavy trigger pull.

Yeah, i recently decided not to cary with one in the chamber anymore.

I'm a "no" on appendix carry, "never point your muzzle at anything you do not wish to destroy"...I kinda like my "junk", had it for 60 years, and would like to keep it...sentimental reasons.

I carry appendix most of the time simply because with my frame it’s the easiest way to conceal the firearm but agree with everything you stated in the post

Yes I carry appendix and with one in the pipe. I agree with every one of your points. However, I’d add, don’t carry appendix and with one in the chamber until you get professional level training. Learn from a professional how to load, unload, draw and holster your firearm. I’ll say it again, Professional Level Training First. Then practice, practice, practice.

15 years of "professional" experience doesnt mean he's been drawing and shooting for 15 years from appendix. the picture of his holster shows that he either pulled the trigger before clearing the holster or his holster wasnt clear during reholstering

I carry strong side at the 4 O'clock. It's just more comfortable, for me.

I carry it in my hat

The second it takes to load a round in the chamber gives you a second to think about maybe not spending the rest of your life in prison when you are angry and stressed, and flooded with adrenaline.

Mechanical safety ftw. I still treat it like a hot poker when I’m reholstering.

At the police academy they always tried to tell us to not look when reholstering. Dumbest advice ever. Generally, if you’re reholstering, the threat has been neutralized. If it hasn’t, why are you reholstering?

I only carry appendix occasionally. My primary carry mode is strong side OWB. A lot easier now that my state joined the ranks of the sensible and no longer prosecutes open carry. When I do carry AIWB, there's no "fast reholstering" that's stupid shit regardless of how you carry.

Appendix Carry, safety off, hammer back, one in the pipe, no holster - just stuffed up front under my belt. And with a filed down hair trigger. Just like all the other cool kids in my trap…

Its perfectly safe if you follow the right rules, and especially so if you carry DA/SA, and keep your thumb on the hammer while reholstering.

Appendix carry shield plus everyday for years. If you have total discipline holstering and upholstering gun, regardless of how you carry, you should not have an issue. But to each their own.

Why not simply carry with a manual safety? It is amazing how certain people are so against manual safeties. It takes a very short time of consistent practice to get the draw stroke memorized, and you can memorize the safety motion to any part of the stroke, such as after the weapon is clear of flagging yourself. I have many recorded videos of myself showing sub 3 second bill drills from concealment with a manual safety. It doesn't slow you down at all. Further, the safety on my weapon is such that when I establish a full firing grip and present it, the weight of my thumb riding it will disengage the safety on the improbable chance that I somehow forgot to do the thing I always do 100% of the time.
