@IndoPacPodcast There is a commenter here that says the Philippines is the one doing the provocations. Manila tried that for 6 years with a massively pro-China president, Rodrigo Duterte. Even then, Beijing failed to come up with an agreement. The rhetoric calmed a bit, but that's the extent.

I really don’t know what nonsense you’re talking about. The South China Sea issue is very simple: either the U.S. fights China in the South China Sea, or it acknowledges China’s control over it. For us, China, it’s also very simple. Our goal is to push the U.S. military out of the first and second island chains surrounding China. The third island chain doesn’t even exist because the distance between the points is too far. What’s the use of all your meaningless talk?
