He is not a communist…nor a “moderate conservative communist.” In his mind, he uses the Hegelian dialectic to churn ANY assertion into an erudite-sounding mish-mash ‘synthesis’ conveniently vectoring towards his post hoc goal that places him as the vanguard of intellect. I'm not sure what Zizek's game is but he's not a communist. His extended conversation with Jordan Peterson, 5-8 years ago, was very enlightening. Under sustained pressure to explain himself it was clear that he uses the term in a way completely disconnected from it historical meaning.

This is a perfect example of a debate between a continental and an analytic thinker. One uses terms broadly, almost symbolically. Žižek seems to identify with communism as a principle or horizon, not with its historical practices. The other demands rigorous definition and accountability for outcomes. Žižek’s “communism” is almost post-communism: keeping the form, not the content. Interesting debate.
