I could use the help of any Excel experts! I'm working on a phantom yield loss calculator and for the life of me, I can't figure out why this VLOOKUP formula isn't working correctly. Can anyone help me out?

Probably not it but are all the cells formatted the same? I.e are they all Percentage and not Text? Have also had trouble when pasting from text sources before and there are hidden spaces that you can’t visually see but keep the lookup value from matching

I'm thinking you're right. I've tried messing with the formats as well but that's not working. I might just start from scratch!

When VLOOKUP doesn’t work, then I use HLOOKUP and then when I can’t get that to work I figure out how to just use a SUMIF…….

Can you share the file for better diagnostics?

If you have access to xlookup use that - it’s much more behaved.

XLOOKUP performs the same so it must have something to do with my formatting

Use xlookup, it has replaced vlookup.

You don’t have decimals (hidden) in the lookup list is it?

Ascending order will work

Try removing false at the end of your formula. Leave the , after, you want it to find the exact match

Are there any decimals hidden? 28.xx% but vlookup is looking for exact 28%?

I had Chatgpt help me fix a nested If statement in excel, just ask it what’s wrong with your formula and see what it says

I got it to work although I’m going to revisit this as I HATE bugs, although this one is surely self-induced

If the 4th VLOOKUP parameter setting is TRUE or omitted, the range you are searching on needs to be sorted from smallest to largest.

I use vlookup often. I recreated the little spreadsheet and it worked as long as col. A was sorted smallest to largest.

Are all your numbers in the same format?

They are. It's odd.

Maybe they call it “phantom” for more than one reason?

I’ve seen some results that say otherwise
