The reason they are asking what if Americans get swept up is because it has happened, during every major immigration sweep hundreds or even thousands of Americans get swept up. This idea that if you're not doing anything wrong and you won't get in trouble, innocent people do

I agree with your point. However, DUI checkpoints are a bad analogy as they violate the free travel part of the Constitution.

Not true at all. Look at the list of arrests at DUI checkpoints. Vast majority not for DUI. It's a 4th amendment violation station.
