I definitely think there’s to much human interference after a calf is born, colostrum in so many hours blah blah, what happened back in the day,let nature do its job!

Hear what your saying Rich, but when we have consistent total proteins in young calves we know we get a healthier/trouble free first 8-10 weeks. Cows calving outside always seem to feed their calves better!

We calve outside july till September ish, then the calving group is small enough for our shed, was ok when all year round calving,so wouldn’t cope now

That’s Monties for you. Don’t need interference. Normally a job and a half catching up to the calf!😂

Not fed calves for years unless they clearly haven’t had any. Zero losses for 2 seasons now. Agree calving outside/space is crucial to stop cross sucking and better mothering

The move overbred an animal is, the more likely there will be difficulties at birth and a calf produced that would need some help.
