This is really interesting. People who aren’t blind are never taught what these are really for. I assumed it was so blind people wouldn’t step too close to the tracks but this actually makes a lot more sense. These are things that we should learn in school. Why isn’t it?

The thing irking me almost as much as the people not moving, is just how close the guide strips are to the edge sometimes… I feel like that’s such a dangerous spot.😅

I’m surprised how little people know what they are for. I think rather than claiming ignorance and being defensive, spend some time reflecting on how little they notice outside of their bubble of privilege.

The purpose of tactile paving like the one shown in the video is to signal to visually-impaired pedestrians that they’re approaching a road crossing, rail tracks, or hazard. They are not guide strips for the blind.
