Emergency stop and you’d be able to bury the driver in an envelope

First time he smacks the brakes .

Unless the laws have changed, you are supposed to have 1 chain for every 10K lbs. So a 30K lbs coil equals 3 chains, I would use 4.

Where are the chains?

Must be an illegal driving. Stupid ass

These rolls are what I haul every day. That guy is a complete FUCKTARD!!! I can’t even begin to explain how unsafe that is and how stressed I am just by looking at it. No chains. No headache rack on tractor. 1 strap per roll. Strap on outside of rail. Uneven weight. Etc. 😳

This is a driver pulling into the "tarping" area where he'll add chains and a tarp. The crane operators will bully you into this if you let them, otherwise they get behind. I refused to move until I had 2 chains on each coil and they hated me for it.

You could have stopped with “I don’t pull a flatbed”. Very good reason they’re upright. The weight keeps them coiled and on their side they could basically explode like an angry rubber band.

The use of chains is a better idea. Big chains.

Proper steel coil flatbeds have a well into which the coil sits..!

I have hauled coils far more than I liked. Looking at that load makes me cringe. Those straps are only good for about 5000 lbs each. Those coils need two chains each at least for the smaller ones, and at least 3 on the larger ones. That’s only an estimate because it’s really hard to guess how much they weigh. In addition, the load is not properly balanced across the deck, making the front of the trailer ride high. Finally, flatbedders like I used to be called that particular loading method for coils a suicide load. Hit the brakes hard and the coils will want to roll forward. You need really good securement to keep the load in place. I saw nothing that indicates that either the driver or the loading facility knew what they were doing. Darwin is just waiting on this fool to demonstrate why that coil load was called a suicide loading. Those straps are one brake tap away from taking out the cab.

We need a legislation change. Coil shipments should have to pay DOUBLE. Once to deliver the coil in a safe coil-specific trailer. Once to bring the coil-specific trailer back. Easy peasy.

Suicide load.

Bruh no headache rack, not even some jury rigged cross bar.

Isn't this the reason those are known as death coils, since there's actually no safe way to transport them?

“Can’t tie down here, it holds up the crane”. That’s the point where you assure them A) I’m securing here or you’re taking the coils back B) exactly what they can do with themselves if that’s a problem. There was a mill in Birmingham that tried to get away with that crap one time. Gotta stand your ground.

Jaysus. That’s not just unsafe, that’s downright deadly. I hauled coils for a few years and always over chained having at least one (sometimes two) extra chains on the heavier ones. It’s unbelievable the crap we see in the industry now.

Another person who is working to prove Darwin was right…

Those rolls of steel need to be chained down for one. Uneven load🤯🤯😳 This is a death wish on the highway 😣😖😣😖 nylon straps Jesus😖

Once I have my CDL, you won't be able to pay me enough to haul these fucking coils... I've seen way too many videos of cabs getting crushed under those damn things 😮💨

This is what they should've put in the Final Destination movies.

@maligator421 Shouldn't those reels be chained down? Not strapped.

It's perfectly fine if he's just moving to a chain down area. There was a couple places I've been to where you get loaded, throw a strap and move out the way. He's an absolute dumbass if that's his securment, DOT would have a field day, license re-voked!

How has no one posted it yet?

One freaking strap on a death coil?! Chains are better for this case. What's the rule again, 1 chain per 10K lbs, plus 1 extra chain?

Straps keep shit from blowing off. Chains secure heavy loads.

It’s how steel rolls are moved though safer with chain ratchets and a very strong trailer bulkhead.

The 4 inch strap.

No bulkhead, not that it would do much good. Isn't something like this illegal?

What is it with flatbed drivers not running headache racks anymore? See em all the time on 44. That used to be a requirement and common sense.

I see more and more loads that are too lightly teathered to flat bed trailers. It's an example of poorly trained drivers piloting those vehicles.

We used to call it picking up a suicide load 😂. But you need lots of chains. That strap ain't holding shit .

For those unfamiliar with how dangerous coils transported on trucks are, and why I steer clear of them on the freeways ...
