I don't think there is a profession that is simultaneously more iconic & misunderstood more than the Geisha. The Geisha are performing artists & hostesses they are not prostitutes. It is due to this misconception that they do not get the respect they deserve

No one trains that hard to learn dance, music, poetry and so on to be a prostitute

I respect your culture. The Islam will not and they’ll force their laws on you. I as a Christian I don’t believe forcing people to that doctrine.

I think foreigners seem to be mistaking Geisha for Oiran (prostitutes who were seen in higher regard than contemporary prostitutes). Rather annoying, methinks.

It sad that people have that viewpoint about them.

Do you remember these queens?

There was a similar profession of actresses in the West, at least during the Roman era. For example, Empress Theodora was an actress-hostess who ended up marrying the famous Emperor Justinian. However, the profession declined either with the fall of the Byzantine Empire or split into professional actresses, barmaids & escorts.

they are 100% prostitutes, doing a dance or having a chat with a client before hand doesn't change that fact.

I think it is a combination of both.

I have never fallen for that misconception.

I always wondered about their feet, why the need to deform them?

That comes from Hollywood history.
