I don’t understand why deaf people should have to choose between having a drink and watching a movie. We are in 2022. All movies should be accessible at this point. Put the CC on the screen so all viewers can enjoy.

I watch everything with captions on and I think if everyone tried it and gave it time to get used to it, they would too. You can barely hear what they’re saying half the time! I want to understand the movie as it’s happening.

I worked at a theatre in high school & we had a guy ask for the CC for Ant-Man. I thought it was super cool bc I’d never seen this device. Unfortunately the man’s friend came out & said “this isn’t no damn Ant-Man” bc my manager accidentally gave him Straight Outta Compton CC ☹️

@deliaxcor went to a movie screening that was supposed to have subtitles. no subtitles.

70% of Gen Z switch on the subtitles at home anyway. It's what people want now. It should be standard in cinemas. There should always have been at least some showings with subs for the deaf and non-native speakers.

I ended up seeing Encanto and The Woman King with CC on the actual screen this year. I’m not hard of hearing, but I wish they also had more showings like this for folks that why they didn’t have to do all that.

@MelechThomas I saw some lady with this during Avatar 2 & I assumed she was streaming herself watching w/ reactions for like twitch. Even tho my thoughts was “go on girl make that money!” I feel like an ass not realizing it a was closed captioning device

@caketheecat This is a terrible take. Over 95% of people aren’t deaf, sorry but it makes no sense to cater to a extremely small minority. Everyone else shouldn’t be forced to have CC just because there MIGHT be someone in the audience whose deaf.

I legit can no longer watch TV/film w/out captions. My hearing has been checked & it’s superb. Movies/TV shows now seem to record audio at lower levels or something, b/c the dialogue is often indistinguishable. I wish all films came w/CC options in theaters across the world.

so fun thing about this, the captions don’t work for certain previews. also most of the devices can be wonky but you won’t realize until there’s a time crunch to get a new one :/
