Great stuff as always! Do you have any resource recommendations to learn more about gradient maps? I've been using other artists' gradient maps for a while, but I often get confused seeing how some have 3-5 colors, and others have 15+. It just seems a bit excessive in those cases

I'm sure it depends on how they get used. Gradient maps are not a precise tool. How they work depends a lot on your style and how you use them.

Your gradient map, do you set it to any blending mode? Or adjust the opacity?

It depends. My most common setting is 'soft light' and the opacity down to 30-50%

That's pencil. I just added a pencilish brush to my toolbox because I keep getting students trying to use a paintbrush to draw. Personally, I think traditional drawing is just easier.
