Anyone old enough to remember the 1976 Bicentennial celebration can confirm that the 250th was a massive fail. The celebration of America lasted all year. Even the Cowboys introduced a special helmet, still worn today to honor military service.

My once in a lifetime event was 50 years ago, the bicentennial. It was very, very good, even though it happened 5 minutes after Watergate and 10 minutes after Vietnam. Our president at the time was not a malignant narcissist who tried to make it about himself, so that helped.
