What is pro-human about curtailing scientific progress? Plus, the fact that you are aligning yourself with a criminal and a socialist panderer is deeply disturbing.

And yet the race continues. I've been at or watched a number of these events now. A bunch of important people get together, talk about the risk of AI, nod gravely, then take literally zero actions that slow the race in any way. Patting each other on the back for a job well done when in reality you've done nothing is the most incredible part.

Let’s hope it does stay bipartisan, like it should, like the U.S. citizens obviously want according to polls. Coincidentally what most people in the U.S. want right now re AI is very much to the benefit of all humanity.

Race to replace is indeed evil. AI as a tool to complement an empower people is much more inspiring. The problem is how not to stop the progress all-together due to panic.. i am sure some people in the group are not as nuanced as Max Tegmark and are not pro-progress.. thats another type of danger.

The problem is that a slowdown can't be done in isolation. Those who adhere will be at a disadvantage to those who don't. Great minds also believed we should not pursue nuclear but humanity ended up in an arms race. We are only as strong as our weakest link. Great thinkers are never that weakest link. Strap in; it's going to be an uncomfortable ride.

The bipartisan part is the signal—this is moving beyond the usual safety crowd.

Steve Bannon is hard pill to swallow though. Someone advocating for a Trump third term, who also once said "Darth Vader, that is power!". Maybe he values some human dictator above AI power, but he's still an anti-democratic far-right propagandist, to put it mildy.

Wow. So bringing together actual nazis and actual communists makes you feel optimistic? You lost the plot.

So much focus now on offensive use of AI, but very little on defensive use. We need to focus AI on identifying and repairing weaknesses in our IT systems. This will counter the effectiveness of AI penetration of our systems. I can guarantee you hostile actors won’t slow AI dev.

AI isn't necessary. Humans are capable of wiping themselves out. But they've always needed a common enemy against which they could unite. AI is welcome.
