I filmed a conversation about death shortly after Daniel Dennett recovered from a life-threatening condition. In addition to discussing personal mortality, we talked about bereavement. I thought this time it would be appropriate to listen again to his wisdom—the wisdom of a great thinker and a dear friend.

@danieldennett Life after death is an oxymoron.

@danieldennett We are huge machines and we die we disassemble into smaller machines, but continue execution.

@danieldennett Nice tribute. I am sorry for your loss. I am also sorry for the absence of God in your and Daniel's life. While some ancient teachings of religion have been properly replaced by scientific dogma, this doesn't mean that the concept of an immortal soul is wrong. Follow me for more.

Adorable watching piles of molecules get all MOOSHY over other piles of molecules just because they fell apart. 🤗🥰

@danieldennett "Forgetfulness of our real nature is death. We make the fatal mistake of forgetting our true selves, and we identify ourselves with this changing body. This body will die. If I am this body, I will die. But . . . "

Scott Jennings After Speaking With Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) From the Hospital: “[McConnell] called me this morning before I did my radio show. We talked for about 17 minutes. He talked a lot about the situation with Iran, talked a little bit about Ukraine and what’s going on in Europe.” “I told him I had been to the Teddy Roosevelt library. We talked a little bit about the history of the vice presidency and how Roosevelt had transformed that and the modern presidency. A little history of the Senate.” “It was a wide ranging conversation. I talk to him often. I hadn’t talked to him since he’d been in. I’d gotten a few text messages from him, but I hadn’t spoken to him. So it was good to hear his voice. Voice sounded strong and sounded like he was keeping up with the news to me.” CNN’s Kasie Hunt: “Did you ask him how he was feeling?” Scott Jennings: “Yeah, he said… he was feeling okay. You know, obviously well enough to call me on the phone and obviously well enough to talk to Barrasso and Thune.” “Now, look, I’m not qualified to discuss any medical issues or give you any information about that, that’s really for him or his staff to do.” “I talk to him from time to time, and I see him from time to time. And, you know, we had a conversation today about the things that we normally talk about, which are news of the day political stuff.” CNN’s Kasie Hunt: “Did you come away feeling like he was still capable of serving the people of Kentucky as Senator?” Scott Jennings: “I came away feeling that he was staying on top of the new… It was a personal private call.”
