Another thing to notice is state approved movies. Check out the trend in the bad guys of action movies. The government needs citizens to rally against its enemies. Early movies had Nazis. Then there were the Korea and Vietnam movies. Then the Cold War brought us Russians and spy movies. Then the Arabs. Any time America is not in a hot war, they swap out the enemy countries for aliens monsters, robots, or anything else we can direct our hatred towards. They need people perpetually outraged and willing to fight an outside threat, so we don't look too hard at the government for our problems.
