X=19-13 X=6 Y=13-6 Y=7 10X+Y=67

We can readily subtract linear equations because thier subtraction isolates structure in a reliable way, whereas the difference between non-linear terms depends on the unknown itself, so elimination no longer isolates structure, it entangles it. (2x + y) - (x + y) = 19 - 13 …the y-terms cancel so x = 6 Plug back into x + y = 13 gives y = 7 So: 10x + y = 10(6) + 7 = 67

Or you could multiply eq1 by 2 and then subtract eq2 to get y=7, and go from there 2x + 2y = 26 - 2x + y = 19 => y = 7

How do they relate to each other? I was thinking "they both have an x and a y". I guess you have to start somewhere. 🤣

Substitute for y , X=6 therefore Y=7 , that is where the two equations intersect on a Cartesian plane.

In this kind of systems I usually add a dimmi equazioni Made by the sum or the difference between the previous two in order to have quickly one of the two variable explicited. Then i solve it quickly. Most of the time I can make in in my mind
