I had no idea we have rice fields before today It's sad that entrepreneurs would prefer to import rice (sometimes expired) rather than establish a small factory to increase production & facilitate distribution

When I finished the third year of Amoud High School, I went to Mogadishu during the summer and then decided to enroll Jowhar High School. It was popularly called the mission. It was a boarding school run by US missionaries. After one semester at there, I came down with Malaria and went back to Amoud near Borama. Jowhar High School was a boarding school and we used to eat rice that was grown in the beautiful fields of Jowhar. Moreover there was a big sugar factory complex in the town. There was another sugar factory in Mareeray, south of Mogadishu.

Insecurity, Insecurity. No production can take place and bring about profits without infrastructure and connectivity and logistics. All this are impossible with criminals roaming around with bazooka etc.killiing at will.Investors with capital will NOT come under this conditions.

Beautiful case study. Instead of enriching foreign suppliers, let the government invest in our farmers, support local production, and build industries that create jobs for our people. Sustainable development starts with us.

Somalis have been growing rice for thousands of years. Also who’s doing what u said, and highly doubt importing expired rice. Which is not even possible because of how long they last, and how there cultivated after there grown.

Duterte and Villar laban sa murang bigas! The bond between the Villars and Dutertes is rooted with extreme self-interest, huh? Undersecretary Claire Castro now revealed that Cynthia Villar blocked the amendment of the anti-farmer, anti-consumer Rice Tariffication Law. I have been writing about Duterte’s Rice Tariffication Law, it has a provision which inhibits the NFA from selling rice, a way for the government to have some control over the prices of rice and give our kababayan a cheaper alternative. The Rice Tariffication Law is not a piece of legislation President Duterte signed, it was his pet bill as endorsed by his economic managers. So if the Duterte supporters have a problem with the Philippines being the number 1 rice importer in the world, they only have former President Duterte to blame. You see the law takes away the rice import quota, before Duterte signed it as a law the state controlled the volume of importation of rice. For example, our rice sufficiency in 2023 is 77% so instead of allowing imports only with the volume we need… It's an open gate to all those who want to import. With the influx of imports, we have lower demands which is affecting the farmgate price of our local farmers. The effect of the Rice Tarification Law on our local farmers and the prices of rice is very much well-written by several universities. Maybe, what the Vice President said is true after all. The Dutertes and the Villars have common vision --- for their families' sake and not of our nation! Anti-poor, pro-oligarch policies too!
