A Florida pastor has been accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy and exposing him to HIV. Pastor Timothy Chaneyfield of Winter Haven, Florida, was arrested after investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a cyber tip from Instagram about inappropriate activity between an adult and a child. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated that Chaneyfield was a pastor at St. James United American Free Will Baptist Church, a hospice chaplain, and a former employee of Polk County Schools. He allegedly used a dating app to contact the teen before moving their conversations to Instagram. Investigators report that Chaneyfield picked up the boy from his neighborhood three times and took him to his home in Eagle Lake, where the abuse occurred. According to Sheriff Judd: “He’s a dope-smoking pedophile preacher. He groomed a child online, drove to the child’s neighborhood, picked him up, and took him to his home, where he had sex with him.” The sheriff also said Chaneyfield is HIV-positive and did not inform the teen before having unprotected sex. Investigators additionally spoke with a 26-year-old man who reported having sexual contact with Chaneyfield and later learned he was HIV-positive. Chaneyfield faces multiple charges, including lewd battery on a minor, traveling to meet a minor, computer-related offenses, and failing to disclose his HIV status.
