I have just ridden down to the Umzingwane river from Bulawayo to inspect its flow. Sadly as this video shows there is only a trickle. Our dam watch report released by the The City of Bulawayo yesterday shows that our dams, despite the good rains, are still only sitting...

If it rains in your location we would appreciate your report here: If it does not rain a report would not hurt as well.

We have gone to your meetings , hinted to BCC how things should be done - Council has to approach ZINWA as the main managers of BYO dams during dry season they conduct what we call - Siltation & Sediment Removal in dams , removing excess sand in the dam ,silt, and other debris this will improve Water dam levels intake quicker , also the cleaning of Drainage systems , also building directed water harvesting drainages leading water to our dams. For example - a heavy drainage systems directing all our city drain water systems to flow towards Ncema or any of our Dams as per geographical dam locations surrounding Bulawayo. Sihlezi labadala abase Khansilini abakwazi ukweba amastands kuphela no brainer . The other major issue that l exonerate David Coltart from is the fact that he is a ceremonial Mayor even if we propose all this the last one with Powers is Town Clerk whose corrupt to the chore Mr Chris Dube, Coltart has no executive powers . We need us as Residents to take this matter up if ZINWA cant manage dams let the CITY COUNCIL Manage cause at the end of the day we the masses are affected we have had so so much rains so far but these above are the factors reducing water dam levels intake.

@CityofBulawayo You didn't have to go there, @zinwawater has a data and research section that collects such data and should be published. The dam levels and the river flows. The catchment hydrologists for Mzingwane and Gwayi catchments should be advising you of any impending droughts...

@CityofBulawayo David when a nation is led by a man in whom God delights it prospers. The heavens open up and nourish the earth. The ppl lack nothing and go to bed with bellies full. Even the animals rejoice. But when it's ruled by an evil cruel mass murderer, hunger & famine persist!

Yesterday I rode down to the Umzingwane river from The City of Bulawayo. In the course of the ride I was able to inspect the state of some of the Umzingwane’s tributaries and the river itself. The good news, as shown by the attached video and pictures, is that the Umzingwane itself has been in flood and is still flowing strongly. The bad news is that I witnessed illegal gold mining in virtually every tributary, and very few tributaries were actually flowing. In all the pools in tributaries the water is exceptionally muddy, a sign of massive erosion upstream. The attached photos show tributaries not flowing and some of these discolored pools. After so much rain these tributaries should still have been flowing but they weren’t. To explain the significance of this I need to emphasize that the catchment has had at least 600mm of rain this season so far and last week alone had over 100 mms of rain - and yet the bulk of the tributaries weren’t flowing yesterday. Despite all the rain we have had Umzingwane as at the 21st January is only at 30,1 % full. In contrast Mshabezi dam is 100% full and yet its catchment area is very close to Umzingwane’s. The difference is that whereas Mshabezi’s catchment is mainly in the north eastern Matopos and has hardly any gold mining, Umzingwane’s catchment has been utterly devastated by illegal mining. Towards the end of 2024 Government banned alluvial mining in river courses. Yesterday I saw numerous miners hard at it. As stated above nearly every tributary of the Umzingwane has evidence of mining taking place. There are large camps of illegal miners. Despite this I didn’t see a single EMA or ZRP patrol. These miners are continuing their illegal work with impunity. The consequences for our City are devastating. Government needs to bring this existential threat to an end immediately otherwise Bulawayo’s water crisis will continue, indeed worsen. We are fortunate this year to have had a good rains which have put some water in our dams. In a drought year there will be almost no inflow. So this illegal mining must be brought to an end immediately.

#ZimElection2023 DAVID COLTART: BORN 66 YEARS AGO IN BULAWAYO, PRACTICED LAW IN BULAWAYO FOR 40 YEARS, STILL CAN’T SPEAK SINDEBELE, CALLS THE CITY OF KINGS & QUEENS ‘BHULUWEYO” YET CHAMISA WANTS TO IMPOSE HIM AS MAYOR David Coltart has been promised Bulawayo’s Mayoral position by the leader of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Nelson Chamisa, reports New Zimbabwe.Com: The promise is based on the wish that Chamisa’s CCC will win most of Bulawayo’s 29 council seats and that the elected councillors will obey Chamisa’s orders in the vote for mayor. Although Coltart came a distant number last, after he was heavily defeated in the CCC ‘community caucus’ candidate selection for Ward 4 in Bulawayo, Chamisa imposed him as the winner, ahead of the real winnera, as Harare’s choice for Bulawayo mayor. Chamisa used CCC’s Bulawayo rally two days ago on Sunday to make public his handpicking of Coltart as his Bulawayo mayoral choice. This is raising eyebrows not least because it's the Bulawayo community - not Chamisa or his Harare cohort - which must choose its Mayor through its elected councillors. Besides, why is Chamisa bent on singling out Bulawayo, and imposing a mayor there? Unconcerned that this is irreparrably damaging his claims to be a democrat, and speaking as if he thinks he would be an Executive Mayor, Coltart thundered at the Sunday rally: “I have been a lawyer in this city for 40 years. I want to use my 40 years experience as a lawyer to review all the contracts in Bhuluweyo, to see whether they are in the interests of the citizens of Bhuluweyo, if we find the contracts are not in the interests of Bhuluweyo...,” to Chamisa's amusement. It is outrageous for Coltart to think he can be the mayor of a local community whose language he does not speak, despite having been born there 66 years ago and having worked there as a lawyer for 40 years. The best he can do is to pronounce 'Bulawayo' as 'Bhuluweyo', just like the Rhodies pronounced it 43 years ago. Hayikhona!
