Poachers often kill the fiercely protective parents to steal the pups, which are then trafficked with horrific mortality rates. Even for those that survive, they are wild animals with incredibly complex social and environmental needs (large water territories, specialized diets) that simply cannot be met in a human home. They often become destructive and aggressive as they mature. It's a tragic system fueled by cute videos. The best way to love otters is to support reputable wildlife sanctuaries and conservation efforts that keep them wild.

You need a proper environment for them if you want to keep otters as pets. If you don’t have one, don’t get one. You would be better off donating some money to animal rescues and care facilities.

They are very cute to look at and observe, but they can bite! Why can’t we just watch them in their wild environment? No need to try and turn into pets. It usually ends in tears.

I want one so bad but if you don't keep them busy they will tear your entire house apart. they will burrow into your couch and pull out every stitch of stuffing in there. everything soft will be chewed to pieces they aren't meant to be kept inside unfortunately... they're so cute

These are not meant for thousands of people to have as pets. They require water based environment which I can tell by their owners they do not get. Some people need to learn how to take care of a plant before they take in an exotic animal. They are not just the latest fad

Cute, but the males are violent, rapey bastards that will hold pups hostage to demand food & force the female’s head underwater during sex to force compliance. They are NOT domesticated animals. Leave them in the wild!

I love ours. I live on a lake so they would fit in really good here. I love otters they’re so adorable. I live in Minnesota so they would have to be inside all winter unfortunately but I can let him play in the bathtub right
