In another life (well almost) I was a union steward in a foundry that was part of a smokestack factory that made HVAC units. (First for GE and then were sold to Trane) I really appreciated your rant on tariffs. It's nice to hear from a knowledge entrepreneur who understands the nuts and bolts of how things are REALLY made these days.

I have tried to hire people here in Florida. Even under a trainee program where they know nothing. And can make $20 an hour, just show up and make an effort to learn. And every time there's a handful of wasteoids and other hopeless 30somethings that I have to pass on.

It is so easy for people to pontificate on this...people that have never run the job posts and done the interviews and tried to train and coach folks up...."Just hire americans!"

Great post Adam. My wife’s doing her part to increase the workforce for the construction industry here in Maine. The Maine construction Academy will graduate 300 +/- high school kids this year.

I see a lot of hypocrisy in the comments (not necessarily your videos, but it's kind of a trending topic right now). A common sentiment is "we should aspire for our kids to have better educations/better jobs" But like, isn't building things like bridges, roads, skyscrapers, hospitals, processing raw materials, etc a noble pursuit? Why is it not acceptable for your kids, but is acceptable to off-shore those unsightly jobs they see as beneath them to countries we perceive as lesser than? It bothers me a lot You can't run a society entirely with managerial consultant email jobs.. someone has to actually do the work beyond just planning and delegating, and the idea that we can just import infinite people on workers visas and pay them less to do necessary work, while also looking down on them is just deeply perverse to me

Blessed my father made me do gross work. Spreading mulch, cutting leather, unloading 18 wheelers full of cow manure… doo doo juice running down my shirt. I’d blow black from my nose in the shower. Engineering looked worth the studying after that.

Yup. Gives you perspective you can’t get any other way
