I have started adding in some Npcs and animals to the towns. However, in order to keep the animations/detail smooth I have scaled them down by 50 percent from the original size they were drawn at resulting in different sized pixel art (oh no, breaking the golden rule!!) My... show more

For those curious, here's what the pixellated versions look like (done via shader code). I think we may offer the option of both in the graphics settings as these also have a certain charm!

For me it really sticks out and makes it look less professional but for most of the people it will probably look good. It would be cool if you made those in scale but I know it's a lot of work.

Yeah. I like the art to scale but to keep characters consistent with all their armour etc, it means redrawing literally hundreds of frames to scale just to walk around town 😔 We are also thinking about an auto scaling option! It looks a bit janky but matches the size.

In this small scale autoscale may actually look decent I'd say. Pretty easy to hide the missing details if everything around is so detailed.

it is a feature!!!

@emotional_realm I never thought of it like that. Thanks for the positivity!

looks epic

Lookin good, you cant really tell.

actually helps characters stand out from the background.

As Oliver also posted, a shader to pixelate it further is a good idea or you could try an outline on the sprites to emphasize the disconnection between them and the scenarios as an aesthetic decision, accentuating this characteristic instead of disguising it. Great job, always!

Looks good. Would not notice if you did not tell me.

What engine are you using to make the game?

sticks out a bit, but most people won't notice.

It looks like they don’t fit in. If it’s a style you stick to for the whole game, it could be interesting — otherwise, it will just feel inconsistent.

Please be like Suikoden but also have multiple choices that grey and important. Branch ending too!

Hard one. Looks odd, especially on a big monitor but... I understand why it would be impractical to redraw all of them... Maybe try another route? Like make an abstract "party blob" moving round"? Dunno...
