I honestly think almost everyone who reviewed this game, whether they liked it or hated it, completely missed the point of how its combat works. They all make the same mistake: because Insomniac made it, they expect Marvel’s Wolverine to play like Spider-Man. But Spider-Man is a fucking spider.... He spends half his time flying around, fighting from the air, and using gadgets. That’s what his gameplay is built around. Wolverine is a fucking animal. A wolf. Wolves stay on the ground. They run, hunt you down, and go straight for the throat. If your entire criticism of Wolverine’s combat is based on comparing it to Spider-Man, you probably shouldn’t be reviewing the game. Almost every review also misunderstands this: Wolverine’s combat isn’t about killing enemies as quickly as possible with endless combos. The system revolves around filling your Rage meters as fast as possible so you can unleash hell and tear through groups of enemies. Rip and tear. Then I keep seeing the same complaint: “The active abilities have way too long of a cooldown.” That alone tells me they didn’t understand the combat system. There are passive abilities designed to reduce your cooldowns, and you can trigger those effects simply by using parts of your basic combos. #WolverinePS5 The mechanics are there. You just have to actually understand how the fucking system works.show more

Just to clarify, this is purely my personal opinion 😂 Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always looked at Wolverine and thought of him as a wolf. The way he acts, the way he fights, and especially how brutal he can be. it always gave me that wolf-like feeling. I know he’s obviously not a wolf 😂 I’m just explaining why I’ve always made that association.

It is a problem I have seen in a couple of game reviews this year of people partially basing a review on what they want the game to be or think it to be rather than stepping back and seeing what it is. And brace yourself for all the nerds jumping on here to correct you that Wolverine is supposed to be a wolverine and not a wolf 😂

@insomniacgames I'm seeing a lot of people also say it's "just press square" something I've seen said about devil may cry by a handful of morons. In DMC you do different combos to keep your ranking up while in wolverine you need to do variation to keep rage up. Once I got that, rage is always up

I agree with the sentiment that the combat system isn't immediately understood when you start playing the game. But that being said I still find the combat very one dimensional and that is probably because Wolverine only has claws. The more I play im not convinced he is the best Marvel cast member for a video game. Spiderman has a much broader array of traversal options, gadgets etc. Wolverine is simple by design and that leaves me wanting a bit more when im playing.

@insomniacgames I have my DS turned up high and the combat is still just off. There's something missing. I bet something gets patched in. I really can't tell you why it doesn't feel right, I'm not a game developer, but it doesn't feel great.

@insomniacgames I saw one review that said this game lacked gadgets that for me told me everything, Wolverine is one of the last heroes that would use a gadget of any kind the man will use a Katana before that for crying out loud

@insomniacgames One thing I wish had been tweaked is that the 2nd half of the game becomes much more fun to play because of the useful passives and additional moves you unlock. Some of those stagger moves should’ve been part of his basic control scheme imo and not unlockable later.

@insomniacgames Personally I’m really enjoying the combat so far, the only thing I don’t like is the camera. It’s far too close to Wolverine so if you get stuck near a wall surrounded by enemies you can’t see shit. Plus a lot of time you can’t really see other enemies that are behind you.

@insomniacgames Ageee for the most part but i think the rage meter fills too slowly and goes down quickly and many times that i do actually work up to it theres no more enemies to kill 😂 im not leaving a negative review though i think its a fun game thats far from flawless
