When driving on rough or muddy terrain, shifting into L (Low gear) gives the vehicle more torque and better control, making it easier to get through difficult sections. However, don't drive long distances in L. Low gear keeps the engine at higher RPM, which increases fuel consumption and unnecessary engine and transmission wear. Once you're past the rough road, shift back to D (Drive) for normal driving.
