Persons bearing the image of Satan being transformed into persons bearing the image of the One who created them and the One who redeemed them, the image, in other words, of Christ. Holiness is about learning the way of becoming Christlike with a transformation that begins in the heart...and then expresses itself outwardly in the life. Here, of course, you have a pitfall which has a long history in the church, a pitfall, I mean, of supposing that the way to teach Christian holiness, Christian behavior, is to drill people Pharisaic style in doing this and not doing that, and the expectation is that by drilling people that way, we shall change their hearts. Well, the biblical perspective is entirely the reverse. History books are very different these days, and apparently it is not enough to just read some of them. As a top EU diplomat, one needs to do their homework to be on the same page with the rest of the world - if one doesn’t want their professional competence discussed at the UN.

Stephen Miller: When the Founding Fathers built this country, they were keenly aware of the fact that their history as Englishmen in the colonies, and their history and experience with Enlightenment principles and values, formed the foundation of our system of government. It is not the case, and has never been the case—to take the Haiti example—to take three million people from a failed island, put them into America, and overnight have them become fully successful, assimilated American citizens. It defies everything we know about how nations and assimilation work. These are hard conversations, but if we don’t have these conversations, we will continue blindly down the path that we have been on in this country for a long time.

No other nation has so successfully combined people of different races and nations within a single culture. Whether in flight from persecution or from poverty, the huddled masses, with few exceptions, welcomed American values, the American way of life and American opportunities. And America herself has bound them to her with powerful bonds of patriotism and pride. The European nations are not and can never be like this. They are the product of history and not of philosophy. You can construct a nation on an idea; but you cannot reconstruct a nation on the basis of one. Political institutions cannot be imposed if they are to endure. They have to evolve and they have to command the affection, loyalty and respect of populations living under them, and they have to be accountable to the people.

James Talarico: "I believe Christianity points to the truth. I also think other religions of love point to the same truth. I think of different religious traditions as different languages, but we are all talking about the same reality. I believe Jesus Christ reveals that reality to us, but I also think that other traditions reveal that reality in their own ways with their own symbol structures. And I've learned more about my tradition by learning more about Buddhism and Hinduism and Islam and Judaism. And so I see these beautiful faith traditions as circling the same truth about the universe, about the cosmos." You can believe those things, but you can't be a Christian and believe that all religions point to the same truth. In John 14:6, the Jesus that James Talarico claims to follow says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." Talarico is still a member of his childhood congregation, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, which is a very progressive church in Austin. It shouldn't be surprising at all that in the church’s About Us page it says, "We are Christ centered, yet we respect and learn from all religions of love." That's not a Christian position. If God is love and we believe in the trinity: God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, which no other religion believes in, then He is actually the only source of love. There aren't other religions of love in addition to Christianity. It doesn't come as a surprise that Talarico is essentially a universalist who claims to be a Christian and uses some Christian tenets, but actually doesn't believe in the exclusivity of Christ.

Our society advises us to "stop caring what others think" — while this is a good antidote for the clout-chasers of today, our blanket rejection of "vanity" veers too far in the other extreme. Did you know there might be a second language on the Book of Mormon gold plates? Most Latter-day Saints have heard that the plates were written in Reformed Egyptian, but not as many people realize that the Book of Mormon started as essentially a different language first. And the relationship between these two languages, I believe, supports the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. What the Nephite language started as, is described in the first chapter of the book of Mormon as "the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians." Scholars have theorized that this first language could contain a mix of Hebrew and Egyptian features. So the Book of Mormon writing may have started out looking something like this, a Judahite variety of Egyptian known as Palestinian Hieratic that is attested in Lehi and Nephi’s day. But languages don’t stay static. After hundreds of years, it seems this earlier Egyptian language evolved into a modified, or Reformed Egyptian, as Moroni calls it at the end of the book. So maybe something like this. Since the writings of Nephi and Mormon both appear to be included on plates that became the Book of Mormon, one would expect their languages to look different. And Martin Harris’s visit to Professor Charles Anthon may show evidence of this shift. New research reveals Anthon may have seen two different transcripts: one that resembled Egyptian—like at the beginning of the Book of Mormon— and another that was harder to identify, just like we’d expect from an evolving, reformed language. Language changing over time is totally natural—just look at how different English was a few hundred years ago! In some cultures, they call this “Ashura” dish as “Noah’s dessert” They believe that the Prophet Noah was the first to invent it when the food on the ship began to run out. So he collected the leftovers and cooked them in a pot together. It’s not very different from what we are going through.. we don’t have the luxury of picking luxurious ingredients. So I made Ashure from what was available As this year ends, I pray that a solution is found in the upcoming one, and our suffering could end.
