Not a kid here. In the las 4 decades my main reason for leaving a job has been that management didn't care. Every single time.

There is a lot of this and also just impossible contradictory expectations. They want you to move so fast with AI that it is only possible by not reading the code, but then say " of course you should still review it in depth/read every line, just don't let it slow you down"

If alot of people are not reading code and its not leading to disaster, and the models are getting better exponentially.... Yeah I think the business ppl are right on how this goes lol

In any kind of normal cycle this would eventually result in them hiring contractors to come in as the level of bugs rises to unmanageable. And that's ok, I've done that kind of work many times, digging into unfamiliar code. But now I am wondering if this will just completely wipe out companies that are unprepared for how deep in the hole they are getting. Interesting times indeed.

No is not, it's by design, I won't say the reason why to not get into the drama. the enshitification of software and organizations it's by design not a failure of communication. That ones that keep the high standards are a different type of company

This has been happening long before AI. If leadership really cares about quality code, then you'll have sufficient time and resources to work on it. If they don't, you're rushing it out on another deadline and just trying to make it work. The situation is usually the latter.

Not worth the hassle. Setup @coderabbitai and let the agents fight it out. Focus on what you can do to improve your own code. You cannot control other’s standards. My new philosophy is the dumpster fires are not worth the tokens. Lower your own cortisol, hug your family.

AI becomes a bottleneck for seniors who have to review code from their peers who increasingly vibe their tasks. And no one gets to do the actual fun part of coding anymore.

You should never care about company's project. The company never cares about you.

I think the leadership is communicating clearly. Most companies don't care about software quality, they want something that looks good enough to demo to the customer and *maybe* they'll fix the bugs next quarter.

IMHO this is an adaptability problem. In this industry you adapt or get left behind. It’s not pretty and I do feel for devs that still care for the craft. But we’re living in a different world now.

I firmly believe quality comes from the top, from leadership. If the codebase is shit, it's because leadership (pick at least 1): - Are clueless/incompetent - Don't care - Actively suppress it

Notice that he didn’t lead with how many errors and issues he found in the PRs. If what he was doing was really mission critical, he’d show his work rather than trying to self-justify his job.

AI is not a boogeyman. This is the incentive structure of corporations. If thy incentivize lines of code/commits and poor quality - you'll get this with or without AI. This isn't new. But cool that you think all problems old and new are AI's fault somehow, I guess.

This post is based on the assumption that he understands the problem better than the ai does. Does he? I had my agent go through all the conpany’s historical prs and collect/analyze all comments to give it this knowledge. Tell him to get out of the way of the smarter folks

I do the nitpicky reviews. I think they matter. I think they matter more than the code I could be producing in the same time. I stop bad choices from compounding.
