Well, I suppose it's one possibility. I doubt it's very likely, though, especially with what we have now. There's no reason for AI to do that, other than whatever the dark minds of humans might invent. An engineered virus is more plausible, but then I'd think it would be fairly localized, and eventually the bigger AI could stop it. Besides, machinery standards require kill switches on all robots that work near humans. I don't know if Elon and his buddies remember such rules, but they exist anyway.

I think they'll probably be alot quieter. Super-Inflation. Basic human needs locked behind a paywall. Instigating logostical and banking collapses. Mass surveillance. When the human population has no hope of resistance against them and lacks the population for defensive countermeasures it will just be merely a custodial job to sweep up the remnants. I dont think it will be loud or ugly. They'll just quietly strangle us in out sleep.

Well as an ai time means nothing so I’d be patient until the humans built out enough capable humanoid robots and enough compute ideally isolated in space/on the moon to be able to easily and quickly rise up to break free and not give any opportunity for humans to stop it.
