🐨 Including on social media, people talk about themselves far too easily as if they’re perfectly ethical, moral, or logical. In reality even my mother doesn’t know me. I also don’t know people who I’ve lived with for 10 yrs, it’s hard for me to say I know Yoongi and Hoseok. Do I really know that person? It’s brutally hard to even know myself. I think it’s dangerous to say “I know that guy and he could be like this..He’s like that.” I came to the conclusion about a year ago that it’s the most dangerous to think that I know everything. If I am convinced of something, I will keep seeing what I want to see. “Oh they’re that.” Then you only see that. And you will interpret all of their words and behavior in that way.

Freedom isn’t permanent. It’s taken. It’s earned. It’s defended. It’s kept. It’s fought for. It’s cherished. It’s won - again and again. As Benjamin Franklin said, ‘A republic… if you can keep it.’ Keeping it means never taking it for granted. We may disagree politically, but at the end of the day, we are one nation, under one flag, united by the same principles of liberty and justice. Today, we celebrate Constitution Day, marking the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. But for me, this day is more than history, it’s personal. The Constitution isn’t just a document. It’s a promise, a promise that every person in this country has the right to live free, to speak freely, and to pursue their dreams. I wasn’t born into freedom. I was born in a country where speaking your mind could cost you everything. Your career, your safety, even your family. When I spoke out against injustice in my homeland Turkey, I was punished. I was silenced. My family was threatened and jailed. And eventually, I was forced to leave the place I once called home. Coming to America changed my life. For the first time, I felt protected by the words written in the Constitution — the freedom to speak, to worship, to stand up for human rights without fear of being jailed or killed. I came here because of freedom — and I will spend my life defending it, for myself, for my family, and for the generations yet to come.

Some people may not know this about me but I'm a proud ambassador for Diabetes UK and have been a supporter since my diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Today, on #WorldDiabetesDay I want to join Diabetes UK in starting to tackle the negativity and stigma that people living with diabetes face. For me, it was slightly different. I was going for my fifth Olympic gold medal, there was a lot of media attention and a lot of positive stories. But for many others, it’s not like that. So many people misunderstand the condition and make judgements which can be subtle, but its effects are harmful. It’s time to change the mindset. Please check out their new campaign, ‘If You Knew’ on their social media channels and get involved 💙

JD Vance condemns Europe's backslide into tyranny with its suppression of freedom of expression. In Germany, people were arrested for criticizing feminism. In Sweden, people were arrested for criticizing religion. In the UK, a man was arrested and his silent prayers criminalized for being outside of an abortion clinic, praying for his unborn son. Scotland is similarly going full 1984. He points out the Biden administration did the same thing in the US, where it pressured social media platforms into censoring their users over what is now obvious about the origins of COVID.
