Interesting. My father always told me wild dolphins would come up to the boat to communicate.

Animals have always been a part of war. Dogs, pigeons, monkeys and possibly dolphins. Every project is a risk. Reducing risk to our military and others is a careful calculation.

Why not Kamikazeb dolphins? We have small, blood-feeding arachnids being dropped from the sky infecting man and beast alike…..

Ever heard of a freaking remote piloted sub? They’re cheap and you can literally just drive it right into the mine, lol. I gurantee it costs less than training dolphins. Regardless, who gives af? We’ve used animals in warfare since warfare began. It’s not fair, it just is. Humans first.

Not an accident. Those mines were taken out on porpoise.

dude.... I love your work. I'll assume this rant is an extended gag. Military working dogs cost $50-150k to train, and that's with midwit NCOs and trainers on dry land. And they'll eat MREs or whatever, sleep wherever, go wherever on whatever their handler says. Slap some body armor on them, and they're already armed to the teeth, so to speak. But they're never thrown away on a single mission, are they. I assume kamikaze CYA dolphins exist but cost 3-5x that just to train, and their trainers must be top flight / no midwits. Plus all the specialized gear they need for operations ain't cheap. But there's no technical reason to sacrifice the K9 units. Why sacrifice the dolphins? Any equipment they use to target a mine will be expensive, and you'd want video from their ops to get intel on the types of mines being use. RF video links don't work underwater. Timers and delay fuzes sure do.

Why in the hell would they take years of training these only to blow them up on one mission. That seems counter productive.

Mike presents several inaccuracies in this post. The military and the CA have been using dolphins for the better part of a century, the dolphins they use are not on the endangered species list as Mike claims in this video. While it’s not ideal and is cruel. They have them trained to place and release the magnetic counter mine (with a timed detonation) explosive then swim back to complete the mission and receive their treat. Of course you can make the assumption that not all make it back. But that would be due to error not design.

One presumes that if killer CIA dolphins were deployed to detonate mines there would be nothing left on the ocean floor. Seriously, if a sea mine can cause massive damage to massive tanker., what would it do to a dolphin. Utterly absurd.

Profilbild von BA🇺🇸

Love your work, but your representation of this topic isn't accurate. Dolphins are not trained to sacrifice themselves to blow up sea mines as kamikazes. The time and $$ it takes to train and support them to do what they do isn't for a one way mission...not enough dolphins.

Chill out. The dolphins each get 19 dolphin virgins after they do their jobs. They cross the rainbow with treats and dolphins waiting for them on the other side. You didn’t know this? It’s actually an honor for them.

The stupidity to have a take that thinks we’d throw away all the training rather than delivering the bomb, waiting till the dolphin is clear, then blowing it is mind numbing.

I'm no expert in underwater explosives, but I can't imagine there would be anything left of those dolphins bigger than my fist. A mine that has the power to blow a gaping hole in a steel ship hull will completely obliterate any kind of fleshy animal smaller than a whale.

Profilbild von Joe

Thinkfor a minute man. Sure its unethical, but do you truly think they spend who knows how many millions and years of training to send them into kamikaze missions? the mines dont blow from being attached with those devices.

This shit is retarded. If dolphins were being “blown” up. There would be no carcasses at the bottom of the ocean. And these manuevers could easily be accomplished by drones today. And supposing that they did use dolphins it is a small price to pay to save human life.
