I know it’s a common misconception but she actually wasn’t viewed as a centrist while still in country music. Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift were widely seen as the most prominent liberal artists in country. The “Taylor conservative” thing has always been a smear by opposing stans.

Things are way more divisive now than they were before 2014… she was a known Democrat back then but didn’t speak about issues that made the country scene uncomfortable… Since then she’s been outspoken about it LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights and has spoken against Trump…

I mean she wasn’t Gaga levels of talking about LGBT people. But she had talked about not judging people for their sexuality and called out discrimination. Obama support was pretty divisive in country music. But yes tensions are higher now and so is how people consume media.

Country music fans are more mad about what they perceive is her turning her back on Country than politics imo. I think it is extremely irresponsible to think everyone who likes country is MAGA. If she puts out music they like people will support her & some won’t.

@Be_Your_Endgame yeah, she was actually quite liberal for a country artist. even NOW, there are some country musicians that still hate gay people and blame Obama for everything.
